They came by sea in sailing ships to make their fortunes in a land far from home, many of them as young as thirteen and fourteen years of age. They came to work with such companies as Charles Robin, the LeBouthillier Bros, Fruings, Janvrin & Janvrin, and others beginning as early as the mid 1700's.
