Members of the Agamidae family are moderate to large size lizards and are found in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, and some Indoaustralian islands. These lizards are primarily active during the day and live on the ground.

Gli agamidi sono confinati principalmente alle aree più calde dell'Africa, Asia e Australia, essendo stati sostituiti nelle Americhe, Madagascar e Fiji dai loro parenti stretti, gli iguanidi. Baþlarý simetrik olarak dizilmemiþ plak ve pullarla kaplýdýr. Göz kapaklarý bulunur, gözbebekleri yuvarlaktýr. Bazýlarýnda kulak deliði bulunmaz. Diþleri acrodont tiptedir yani çenenin üst kýsmýndan çýkarlar. Hepsi ayný boy ve biçimde deðildirler. Dil kalýn kýsa ve geniþtir, aðýz tabanýna tamamen yapýþýktýr, uç kýzmý yarýk ve serbesttir. Genellikle baþ ve kuyruk kýsýmlarýnda dikenli pullar bulunur. Kuyruk kolay kopmaz ama koparsa da rejenere olabilir. Çöl veya kayalýk zeminlerde yaþarlar, bazýlarý aðaçlarda da barýnýr.

A number of agamids developed highly specialized adaptions like the genus Draco which is the only lizard genus that has evolved a gliding flight made possible by elongate ribs which support a flight skin. Chlamydosaurus has large frills and several genera show enlarged scales all over the body (e.g. Moloch) or all over the tail (like Uromastyx).
