These are not real spiders, but resembles the spiders very much because they also have eight legs. They belong to the class Arachnida like the spiders, ticks and mites, scorpions and pseudoscorpiones. 3500 known species are known. 27 are found in NW-Europe. This order can be divided in three families: Nemastomatidae, Phalangiidae and Trogulidae. Photos.

Hämmalised on avatud põõsasmaastike, steppide, kõrbete ja teiste madalate piirkondade elanikud. Neid leidub kõigil troopilistel ja subtroopilistel aladel, välja arvatud Ida-Aasia, Austraalia, Polüneesia ja Sunda saared. Enamus liike elab Aafrikas, kuid palju on ka Aasias ning Ameerikas. Euroopas kohtab neid Vahemeremaades, kus esineb neid vaid 6 liiki. Mägedes on hämmalisi kindlaks tehtud isegi üle 3000 meetri kõrgusel.
