Ciclide molto pacifico , bello e colorato , da tenere in coppia in acquari anche di modeste dimensioni ma ricchi di piante e di nascondigli . Non sono molto esigenti per quel che riguarda le caratteristiche chimiche , l'importante è tenere sotto controllo la presenza di composti azotati , sarebbe preferibile comunque un ph leggermente acido.

E' la più piccola Nannacara , il maschio misura solo 4 cm , è caratterizzata da strisce longitudinali che percorrono tutto il corpo, è una specie robusta che vive bene anche in acquari di piccole dimensioni , non ha particolari esigenze per quel che riguarda i valori dell'acqua , che preferibilmente dovrebbe essere tenera .

"After observing my new fish for several weeks, I found that I had three males rather than two males and a female, as I had thought. The male juveniles have very similar coloration with the females. After several months, I have found that coloration is not a reliable method of distinguishing the sexes of these fish, unless you're lucky enough to be looking at a pair that have just spawned. I have learned to look for a slightly longer dorsal rear portion of the dorsal fin to tell male from female".
