Bazalicki należą do rodziny pielęgnicowatych zamieszkujących Amerykę Środkową. Głównym obszarem ich występowania są jeziora i rzeki, położone po stronie atlantyckiej na terenie Nikaragui i Kostaryki. W naturze żywią się przede wszystkim pokarmem roślinnym, zdrapując glony silnie przytwierdzone do podłoża. Polują również na małe skorupiaki i larwy owadów. Dorosłe samce osiągają długość do 12 cm, samice są mniejsze, długość do 8 cm. Bazalciki wyraźnie różnią się od innych pielęgnicowatych pochodzących z kontynentu amerykańskiego.

The "Neet" as it's known is another little guy to make the list. This very nasty Cichlid also hails from the Nicaraguan lakes and prefers to forage around in the rocky substrate feeding on aufwuchs and algae. When breeding they become jet black with a white bar. Their razor sharp teeth give them a great advantage at protecting their brood, which they do better then almost any other Cichlid.

Alimentaçăo: As populaçőes dos lagos preferem algas e, por isso, em cativeiro devem comer folhas finas de espinafres e de alface ou ervilhas. Além disso, aceitam larvas e camarőes mas năo se importa de ser alimentado apenas com flocos. Mas uma dieta variada coloca rapidamente os peixes sexualmente maduros em condiçőes de reproduçăo.
