Pithecia: Sakis
- English
URL: http://www.press.jhu.edu/books/walker/primates.cebidae.pithecia.html
Sakis inhabit forests, usually at elevations of 210-750 meters. They are essentially diurnal and wholly arboreal but sometimes descend to the lower limbs of trees or even to bushes in search of food. Happel (1982) reported P. monachus to rest and feed mainly in the upper, emergent layers of the forest canopy, at heights of 15-24 meters, but to travel mostly at 10-19 meters. Sakis descend vertical supports tail first. [ eng ] |

Pithecia monachus: Narrative
- English
URL: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/accounts/pithecia/p._monachus.html
Arboreal, high canopy dwellers. They are very nervous around humans and disturbance, thus very little data has surfaced on the lifestyle of P. monacha. However, scientists agree that the tallest trees available (from 10-35 meters tall) are the habitat of choice for these animals, and in most instances they are the sole primate inhabiting this niche.
