Морской леопард-единственный представитель семейства, постоянно питающийся теплокровными животными. Он нападает на пингвинов, а также на других птиц, молодых ластоногих и рыб. Птиц морской леопард ловит, подплывая к ним под водой. На море обычно держатся поодиночке, но на берегу иногда собираются группами до 250 особей.
