Relatively high population densities have been recorded, but these mice do not seem to be gregarious (Kingdon 1974b). Neal (1977a) stated that mean life expectancy is very short in the wild and nearly all adults die after each breeding season, resulting in a nearly total population turnover twice a year. A captive L. striatus, however, lived for 4 years and 10 months.
