In California, known only from Humboldt and Del Norte cos. This scarce resident of humid coastal forests is found in redwood, Douglas-fir, and riparian forests. Found from sea level to 1100 m (3500 ft) in Oregon.

Distributed along the North Coast from Sonoma Co. north to the Oregon border, being more or less restricted to the fog belt.

Arborimus: Tree Voles - English

Both species of Arborimus are restricted largely to lower elevations in humid, temperate, coastal forests (Johnson 1973). A. longicaudus is arboreal and has a highly specialized way of life. Its movements, unlike those of most mice, are slow and cautious, especially along branches, where care is taken to obtain a firm grasp on a new support before leaving a safe foothold. This species is active throughout the year.
