Cricetomys has a rather long, narrow head; ungrooved incisor teeth; cheek pouches; and a scaly tail. The eyes are very small, which is unusual in a nocturnal animal, and this condition suggests that Cricetomys relies more on its senses of smell and hearing than on vision.
