Xeromys myoides (False Water Rat): Narrative - English

The false water-rat is found mainly in coastal swamps with mangrove forest. It has also been recorded near freshwater lagoons, sedged lakes, and grassy and reed swamps. It appears to dependend on mangrove habitats for food aquisition.

The single species, X. myoides, is known by six specimens from the Mackay area of southeastern Queensland, five from the coast of the Northern Territory, and three from nearby Melville Island.
