Eliurus minor - English

This is the smallest of the tuft-tailed rats. It's upperparts are greyish-brown to cinnamon-brown with dark guard hairs, underparts are grey, there is an abrupt line of transition between the two. The tuft on the tail accounts for about 60% of the tail's length and is dark-brown or blackish.

This is one of the largest of the tuft-tailed rats. It's upperparts are dark greyish-brown with the sides lighter than the back, underparts are light grey, there is no abrupt line of transition between the two. The feet are whitish. The tail is long and thin with a thick bushy white tuft at the end.

These mice apparently prefer heavily forested areas. E. myoxinus is mainly nocturnal and arboreal (Petter 1972), but E. minor burrows in the ground.
