Hodomys - English

The single species, H. alleni, is found in western and central Mexico, from southern Sinaloa to northern Oaxaca (Hall 1981). Until recently, most authorities, including Hall, treated Hodomys as a subgenus of Neotoma. Genoways and Birney (1974) suggested that generic rank might be warranted but did not choose that alternative, pending further investigations of the relationships of Hodomys, Xenomys, and Neotoma.
