Mexican Woodrat (Neotoma mexicana)
- English
URL: http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/neotmexi.htm
These rats frequent rimrocks, canyon walls, and other rocky areas where they establish themselves in cracks and crevices. Into these retreats they carry considerable quantities of rubbish with which to build their nests. Preferring to construct their dens among the cracks and crevices of boulders and other rocky situations, these woodrats do not build elaborate, above ground nests as do other woodrats. [ eng ] |

Neotoma fuscipes (Dusky Footed Wood Rat): Narrative
- English
URL: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/accounts/neotoma/n._fuscipes$narrative.htm
The dusky-footed wood rat, although found on hillsides, usually select valleys and lives very close to small streams and water. Since this species likes areas that are covered, they tend to avoid open grassland and open oak woods with small amounts of underbrush. The plant species in the area affect the wood rat through the nature of the cover and screening it offers. Plants such as Arroyo Willow, Red Willow, and Coast Live Oak provide good protection.

Neotoma cinerea (Bushy-Tailed Woodrat, Packrat): Narrative
- English
URL: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/accounts/neotoma/n._cinerea$narrative.html
Bushy-tailed woodrats occupy a range of habitats from boreal woodlands to deserts. They are cliff-dwellers, and are often found on isolated, high-elevation bouldery exposures under a variety of temperature and moisture regimes. They require adequate shelter inside the rocks, though they are occasionally found inhabiting abandoned buildings as well. [ eng ] |
