Oxymycterus: Burrowing Mice - English

These rodents have been found in swamps, marshes, grasslands, brushy areas, woodlands, and forests. The following account of O. rutilans is based on the work of Barlow (1969) and Dalby (1975) in Uruguay and northeastern Argentina. This species seems to have an ecological role somewhat like that of Onychomys in North America.
