Il 15 aprile 1928 il dirigibile Italia partм dall'aerodromo milanese di Baggio e con un volo di circa 6000 km, facendo tappa a Stolp (Pomerania) e Vadsц (Norvegia), giunse alla Baia del Re nelle isole Svalbard il 6 maggio.
