Australian Microshells
- English
URL: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~filejest/
"Basically, microshells are shells that, when the adult stage is reached, are very small.
How small? Well - that's up to you to define. Most people would probably choose a
boundary of 10 mm, but some people call things microshells that are much bigger than
that. In those cases they are dismissing as microshells' shells that are too small for
them to bother with." [ eng ] |

Phylum Mollusca
- English
URL: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/mollusca.html
Molluscs are bilaterally symmetrical eumetazoans. They have a true coelom (eucoelom) which is formed by the splitting of embryonic mesodermal masses (schizocoely). Development is
protostomous.
An important characteristic of most molluscs is the head-foot region. Most molluscs are strongly cephalized; that is, they have a well-developed head, in which is located a mouth and a
concentration of nervous and sensory functions. Adjacent to the head is a large, muscular foot formed from the ventral body wall. Used primarily in locomotion, the surface of the foot is
sometimes ciliated and and laden with numerous mucous glands. [ eng ] |
