Страус
Если бы проводились Олимпийские Игры среди домашней птицы,
они оказались бы скучными. Страус без сомнения выиграл бы все соревнования по бегу и
по кладке яиц и стал бы неоспоримым победителем с парой аппетитных окороков. [rus]

Chaffee Zoological Gardens of Fresno - Struthionidae
Genetic information now confirms that the ratite species are not related but rather convergent. Developing under similar conditions, mainly grasslands, they were pressed by natural selection to have similar appearances and behaviors. This kind of parallel development has become known as convergent evolution.

African Ostrich
The ostrich (Struthiocamelus) is the largest living bird on earth. An adult ostrich may stand 3 m (10 ft) tall and weigh more than 180 kg (400 lb). The ostrich can take 3.5-m (12-ft) strides and run at a sustained speed of 50 km/h (30 mph) for 15 minutes or more. In short bursts it may reach 70 km/h (43 mph). To defend itself, it can kick violently, using the single long toe-nail on each foot as a weapon. [eng]
