Martes americana (American Marten, American Pine Marten): Narrative
The marten is an opportunistic feeder that eats primarily small mammals including squirrels and rodents. Occasionally birds, fruit, nuts, insects, and carrion will be eaten as well. The main killing technique consists of a quick, powerful bite to the back of the neck. They often have fast-paced chases in trees with one of their favorite prey items, the red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus).

Martes pennanti (Fisher): Narrative
The fisher is a predator, and most of its prey are herbivores. Fishers eat mice, porcupines, squirrels, snowshoe hares, birds, and shrews, and sometimes, other carnivores. They may also feed on fruits and berries, such as beechnuts and apples. They have also been seen to eat white-tailed deer, though they most likely did not hunt and kill the deer.
