Chambered Nautilus
Nautilus pompilius (aka, macromphalus, aka belairensis),
the chambered or pearly nautilus is a member of the
cephalopod class of the mollusks. The nautilus is a "living
fossil" whose close relatives date back 100's of millions of
years into geologic history. The life and habits of the nautilus
are, for the most part, a mystery, although a great deal has
been learned about the nautilus in recent decades. [eng]
