Information about research on cephalopods at the Department of Zoology, University of Aberdeen and collaborating institutions, along with some general information about cephalopods and people working on them. There are also links to our "marine mammal" and "fisheries" pages and more general pages about Marine and Fisheries Science at the University of Aberdeen. "Eurosquid" was the nickname given to our EC-funded project on "Fishery Potential of North East Atlantic Squid Stocks" (1990-92). "Eurosquid" is a bit easier to remember, so the name has gained popular currency. [eng]

Adaptations of Octopoda
Over the ages Cephalopods have developed many special features. All these adaptations occurred because there was some kind of selection pressure. As selection has changed throughout evolution, due to environmental changes and the rise and decline of different predators, each time has had its own evolutionary direction.I call these directions evolutionary trends and will discuss the most important ones. They were important to all Coleoidea, but I will concentrate on Octopods. [eng]
