Stock assessment of redfish (Centroberyx affinis)
Redfish form an important component of ocean trawl and trap fisheries off NSW, and are also taken by recreational anglers. Annual commercial landings have ranged between 1000 and 2500 t. Although the species does not command a high market value, the quantities landed ensure that it is an economically significant species to the trawl fishery off the south coast of NSW. A significant proportion of the catch of redfish is processed into 'surimi' paste, so the species also helps to support the fish processing industry. [eng]
