Sticklebacks
Six species of sticklebacks are recognized in North America (Robins 1980). Two of them are found in California: tube-snout, Aulorhynchus flavidus, a coastal marine
species associated with giant kelp beds (this species was formerly in the family of Aulorhynchidae) and the threespine stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, a widely
distributed small fish. Both freshwater and anadromous forms are found in the study area. [eng]

Nonindigenous Fishes - Gasterosteidae
The Gasterosteidae comprises five genera and about seven species (Nelson 1994). The family is widely distributed in temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere
(Berra 1981; Nelson 1994). Four species are native to North America north of Mexico (Page and Burr 1991). Sticklebacks are small fish, less than about 15 cm in
length, characterized by a scaleless body with 3-16 isolated dorsal spines along the back. [eng]
