Nyctinomops femorosaccus (Pocketed Free-Tailed Bat): Narrative
This species of bat is strictly insectivorous. Peak activity for feeding occurs at two different times, at the beginning of the night, and again at the end. Like many bats, the Pocketed Free-tailed Bat uses echolocation to detect the presence of its prey. (Grzimek, 1990). [eng]
Big Free-tailed Bat (Nyctinomops macrotis)
This bat is rare in collections and little is known of its habits. In Texas, these bats have been recorded primarily from the Trans-Pecos where they seem to be seasonal inhabitants of rugged, rocky country in both lowland and highland habitats. [eng]
CHIROPTERA; MOLOSSIDAE; NYCTINOMOPS: New World Free-tailed Bats
There are four species (Cabrera 1957; Hall 1981; Handley 1976; Husson 1978; Koopman 1978a, 1982b; Ochoa G. 1984; Taddei and Garutti 1981). [eng]
