Hipposideros: Old World Leaf-nosed Bats These bats fly lower than most bats and catch insects such as beetles, termites, and cockroaches; cicadas apparently form an important food source for some species. H. armiger appears to locate these insects by their calls. H. commersoni in Africa eats the beetle larvae that are inside wild fig fruits and incidentally consumes some fig pulp. Hipposideros often returns to its roost to eat its catch and seems to have certain feeding territories that it regularly patrols.
