Carterodon
The single species, C. sulcidens, occurs in eastern Brazil (Cabrera 1961). The species was first described in 1841 from fossil remains collected at Lagoa Santa in the state of Minas Gerais. In 1851 living animals were found on the open pampas in Lagoa Santa. Another specimen, collected by Miranda Ribeiro in Campos Novos, Mato Grosso, is now in the Museu Nacional, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Two more specimens were taken by Joao Moojen in Brasilia. [eng]
