Sesamum indicum
Sesamum indicum is one of the oldest oil seed plant originally from Africa. Sesame seeds are produced in relatively hot and dry regions because the plants are adaptable and drought resistant. Grown upto an altitudes of 1250 m from mean sea level with a few exceptions (upto 1500 m). The seed contains 50-60% oil which has excellent stability due to the presence of natural antioxidants such as sesamolin, sesamin and sesamol. [eng]
