Macrotarsomys The body form of Macrotarsomys is like that of some Gerbillinae. The ear is large (20-25 mm long in M. bastardi), the hind foot is long (22-28 mm in M. bastardi), and the tail is elongated. The three central toes are longer than the first and fifth digits, and the fifth toe is longer than the reduced first toe. The first toe bears a claw that is located fairly low on the foot. The moderate inflation of the bullae gives the skull a unique appearance among the genera of mice from Madagascar. [eng]
