[rus]
Investigating the Behavior of Ants
Ants are colonial insects living together and cooperating in nearly all aspects of their lives. They communicate directly by touching various segments of their antennae together, and indirectly by releasing chemicals onto the surfaces on which they walk. The effectiveness of communication between ants is responsible for those long and busy ant trails you see so often. [eng]
Behavior of Real Ants
The most interesting aspect of this autocatalytic process is that finding the shortest path around the obstacle seems to be an emergent property of the interaction between the obstacle shape and ants distributed behavior: Although all ants move at approximately the same speed and deposit a pheromone trail at approximately the same rate, it is a fact that it takes longer to contour obstacles on their longer side than on their shorter side which makes the pheromone trail accumulate quicker on the shorter side. It is the ants preference for higher pheromone trail levels which makes this accumulation still quicker on the shorter path. [eng]
The Ants: Social Behavior
"Here are two shots of the first cooperative program in action. The first picture shows the robots scattered around the playing area. There is a piece of ant food in front of the robot in the middle." [eng]
ZOOLOGY: Foraging Behavior at Picnics - The Ants' View
In this laboratory exercise you will study the foraging behavior of ants that live under the sidewalk, in the playground, or wherever you find them. You will have available to you a variety of typical picnic foods that you can use to learn what factors may be important to ants when choosing among potential food sources. [eng]

No. 94 Autumn 1998 Behavior of fungus growing ants
Throughout the New World’s tropical and subtropical zones, an industrious tribe of fungus-growing ants dominates the ant kingdom. Pruning and breaking down vegetable material, turning and enriching the soil, these ants of the myrmicine tribe Attini—also known as “wiwi” in Nicaragua and Belize, “saъva” in Brazil and “cushi” in Guyana—have become an integral part of the ecological system.
