The Ant: A Morphological Tour of the Super Organism
The ant is a fascinating organism to study. Its form is both intellectually and aesthetically
appealing. The many parallels that exist between humans and ants have proven thought provoking
for some of the greatest scientific minds. The estimated biomass of the ants has been approximated
to be roughly equal to that of humans. Ants engage in war, sew silk, garden, enslave other ants,
and are one of the few species other than humans truly capable of altering their surroundings. Yet
while we hold so many characteristics in common with the ant, they can appear and act as
delightfully foreign to us as any Hollywood created alien. [eng]

Seychelles ants
Justin Gerlach. The Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles has been caryring out research on the status of Seycheles invertebrates for several years. A particular focus of attention has been the ants and
Dr. Justin Gerlach has been surveying the distribution of ants throughout the islands. So far the only island to be fully surveyed is Silhouette. All species previously recorded on the island
have been found and a number of additional taxa located. The emphasis of this research has been the re-location of endemic species and investigation of the distribution of alien species.
Identifying the aleins amongst the numerous tramp species has been highly problematic and relatively few species can be recognised as definitely alein. [eng]
