Wolfgang Kohler
German-American psychologist, one of the founders of Gestalt psychology with Kurt Koffka. Köhler and his followers have analyzed the nature of gestalts and gestalt-qualities, discovered the perceptual conditions under which they arise and disappear, formulated general "laws" of perception-phenomena, and elaborated neuro-physiological hypotheses to account for them. Köhler's tests with chimpanzees suggested that these animals solved problems by understanding, rather than as a result of a gradual trial-and-error process. [eng]
