Pirates and Privateers - Grainne O'Malley
The story of Grбinne Ni Mhбille or Granuaile (Anglicized as Grace O'Malley, Grany Malley) reads like the most brazen and unlikely sort of adventure fiction,
but there's history as well as myth in the legend of the Irish noblewoman who led a band of 200 sea-raiders from the coast of Galway in the sixteenth century. Twice
widowed, twice imprisoned, fighting her enemies both Irish and English for her rights, condemned for piracy, and finally pardoned in London by Queen Elizabeth
herself, Grбinne was one of the few sea-raiders to retire from the sea and die in her own bed, though where she's buried remains a mystery. [eng]

Legends - Pirates and Privateers - Blackbeard
Edward Teach, alias Blackbeard, "more than any other, can be called North Carolina's own pirate, although he
was not a native of the colony... As is the case with all pirates, his origin is obscure. His name originally, it seems
was Edward Drummond, and he began his career as an honest seaman, sailing out of his home port of Bristol,
England. He is seldom known by that name, for after he became a pirate he began calling himself Edward Teach,
sometimes spelled in the records as Thatch, Tache, or even Tatch. [eng]
