St. Andrew
The Gospels tell us that Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter, and that they were fishermen
from Bethsaida; they also had a house at Capharnaum, as we hear that our Lord stayed there when
he was preaching in the neighborhood. Andrew had been a disciple of St John the baptist, and it
was John who pointed out our Lord to him with the words, 'This is the Lamb of God.' Andrew and
another of John's disciples immediately followed our Lord, and Andrew thus has the distinction of
being known as the first of the disciples. [eng]

Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. VIII
About that time all the apostles had come together to the same place, and shared among themselves the countries, casting lots, in order that each might go away into
the part that had fallen to him. By lot, then, it fell to Matthias to set out to the country of the man-eaters. And the men of that city used neither to eat bread nor drink
wine; but they ate the flesh of men, and drank their blood. Every man, therefore, who came into their city they laid hold of, and digging they thrust out his eyes, and
gave him a drug to drink, prepared by sorcery and magic; and from drinking the drug his heart was altered and his mind deranged. [eng]

Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. VIII. Acts and Martyrdom of the Holy Apostle Andrew
What we have all, both presbyters and deacons of the churches of Achaia, beheld with our eyes, we have written to all the churches established in the name of Christ
Jesus, both in the east and west, north and south. Peace to you, and to all who believe in one God, perfect Trinity, true Father unbegotten, true Son only-begotten,
true Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father, and abiding in the Son, in order that there may be shown one Holy Spirit subsisting in the Father and Son in precious
Godhead. [eng]

John, i, 42), was born in Bethsaida of Galilee (John, i, 44). He was brother of
Simon Peter (Matt., x, 2; John, i, 40). [eng]

Duc de Berry - Folio 201r. The Martyrdom of Saint Andrew
The Très Riches Heures ends with the Offices of Saint Andrew and of
the Purification. As Saint Andrew was one of the Duke's heavenly
patrons, a large miniature devoted to him had been planned during the
prince's lifetime, only to be executed years later by Jean Colombe.
Brother of Simon Peter, Andrew is said to have preached in Palestine
and then in Scythia, Thrace, and Achaia. [eng]

St Andrew - patron saint of Scotland
Although Andrew and his brother Peter were two of the original apostles, very little is known about Andrew. He was a fisherman from Galilee, who went on to
spread the Christian religion in Greece and Asia Minor. He is believed to have been killed by being crucified by the Romans on a diagonal cross in Patras in
Southern Greece. [eng]

ST ANDREW, APOSTLE
The acts of this apostle's martyrdom, though rejected by Tillemont, &c., are
maintained to be genuine by Nat. Alexander, Hist. t. i. and by Mr. Woog, professor
of history and antiquities in Leipsic, in learned dissertations, published in 1748 and
1751. The authority of this piece being contested, little stress is laid upon it, and the
following account is gathered from the sacred writings, and those of the fathers. [eng]
