Aves principalmente tropicales, son de tamaño pequeño a mediano. Tienen aspecto robusto, plumaje suave y similar en ambos sexos y son gregarios. Pueden ser insectívoros, granívoros o frugívoros. Construyen nidos enmarañados, donde ponen de dos a cuatro huevos blancos. El único representante que tenemos es el Bigotudo, esta especie distribuida en Europa meridional y occidental y, en oriente hasta el Turquestán, Siberia meridional y Mongolia, es muy abundante en algunas zonas del Levante.
