Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón
Alarcon's journey is mostly associated with Coronado's expedition of 1540. He sailed up the Gulf of California and up to the shoals of the Colorado River. He had contact with the Yuman-speaking Indians along the Colorado. Spanish scholar, was born at Medina del Campo in 1555. His friendship with Antonio Perez caused him to be arrested in 1590 and imprisoned for nearly thirteen years.
