A Genus of Changeling Damselfishes, Neoglyphidodon
Neoglyphidodon carlsoni (Allen 1975), Carlson's Damsel. Known only from Fiji presently. Neoglyphidodon melas (Cuvier 1830), the Black Damsel. Indo-west Pacific, Red Sea, eastern Africa to Vanuatu. Neoglyphidodon nigroris (Cuvier 1830), Behn's Damsel. Western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean. [eng]
Black-and-gold chromis (Neoglyphidodon nigroris)

S.A.M.E. Database - Neoglyphidodon nigroris
Often sold as a Chromis species, but behaves nothing like members of that genus. Like all members of the genus Neoglyphidodon, the attractive little juveniles grow into large, drab, foul-tempered adults. [eng]
S.A.M.E. Database - Neoglyphidodon melas
Like all members of the genus Neoglyphidodon, the attractive little juveniles grow into large, drab, foul-tempered adults. Useful for cycling new tanks, as they are virtually indestructible, but should be removed from the aquarium before introducing more peaceful species. [eng]
Neoglyphidodon melas
Adults get uniformly black while the juveniles have a bright yellow top and royal blue pectoral fins. Will grow to a maximum size of 15 cm. In nature thay are solitary fish, living in places where coral growth is maximal. A very hard fish will tolerate the "tank cycling" procedure very easily. Will accept any food. [eng]
Behn's Damsel, Neoglyphidodon nigroris
This fish will readily eat all kinds of live, frozen, and flake foods and algae. Finely chopped meaty foods (like brine shrimp) can be fed regularly. It is best to feed small amounts several times a day. In a reef situation they don't really need to be fed very often at all. [eng]
