Kinixys natalensis Natal Hinged Tortoise
The Natal hinged tortoise is a small hingeback that dwells specifically "the Lebombo Range on the Mozsambique-Swaziland border, south through western Zululand to Greytown, Natal" (Broadley, 1981). One way to recognize this species from Kinixys belliana is that K. natalensis psosess a hooked upper jaw that is tricuspid. Kinixys belliana nogueyi
La Kinixys belliana nogueyi vit en Afrique, du sud du Sénégal au nord du Cameroun principalement. C'est une aire de répartition très vaste ce qui peut induire des caractères différents d'une région à l'autre et des adaptations différentes quant au biotope et au climat (cf. carte). Néanmoins, son milieu est celui du sous-bois à proximité d'une source d'eau. Pour l'autre sous-espèce la Kinixys belliana zombensis le biotope est plutôt la savane, donc moins humide. Néanmoins elle ne sort qu'au moment des pluies pour se nourrir et se reproduire. Le reste du temps elle estive. [fra] |
