African Ostrich
The ostrich (Struthiocamelus) is the largest living bird on earth. An adult ostrich may stand 3 m (10 ft) tall and weigh more than 180 kg (400 lb). The ostrich can take 3.5-m (12-ft) strides and run at a sustained speed of 50 km/h (30 mph) for 15 minutes or more. In short bursts it may reach 70 km/h (43 mph).
