Fr. Michael D. Griffin
The splendid manifestation of devotion to Saint Joseph that have occurred in
ever-increasing measure during the last one hundred years call for a word of explanation.
How can we explain this phenomena? Christian piety calls for more than enthusiasm in its
devotion to a saint; it needs to be nourished with a better understanding of the rich insights
that have been unlocked by exegetes and theologians, as well as the reflections of the
saints. [eng]

Saint Joseph by Rev Alban Butler
The glorious Saint Joseph was lineally descended from the greatest kings of the tribe of Judah, and from the most illustrious of the ancient patriarchs;
but his true glory consisted in his humility and virtue. The history of his life hath not been written by men; but his principal actions are recorded by the
Holy Ghost himself God entrusted him with the education of his divine Son, manifested in the flesh. In this view he was espoused to the Virgin Mary. [eng]

St. Joseph
St. Joseph, in all likelihood, was born in Bethlehem, and it is generally assumed that he
died at Nazareth before Jesus began his ministry. The Bible tells us very little of Joseph,
but from the early chapters of Matthew and Luke we glean that he was a carpenter by
trade, a just and pious man, and a most excellent husband and father. [eng]

Saint Joseph
Joseph was born in the royal line of King David, but in his time the descendents of David no longer held power or wealth. He left his ancestral home of Bethlehem in
Judea to become a builder and carpenter in the town of Nazareth in Galilee. There he met Mary and became engaged to her. When she became pregnant before
their marriage, he was uncertain as to what he should do. He finally decided to break off the engagement in accordance to the Law; but do to so quietly, so that she
would not be subjected to charges of adultery and quite possibly a death sentence. [eng]

Biography: Joseph, Guardian of Our Lord (19 Mar NT)
All that we know of Joseph we learn from the first two chapters of Matthew and of Luke. Otherwise he is mentioned only in passing in Luke 3:23; John 1:45; John
6:42 as the supposed father of Jesus. (Mark does not mention him at all.) [eng]
