Nonindigenous fishes - Centrarchidae
The Centrarchidae comprises eight genera and 30 species (Page and Burr 1991). It is naturally found only in North America, mostly east of the Rocky Mountains (Page and Burr 1991). Centrarchids are small- to medium-sized fishes, ranging from about 8 cm for the bluespotted sunfish Enneacanthus gloriosus to 83 cm for the largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides. They are characterized by deep, laterally compressed bodies and spiny-rayed fins. [eng]
