Haemulidae
The various species of the genus Plectorhinchus (a subfamily of the Grunts, the Plectorhynchinae) offered in the western part of the
trade as "Sweetlips" or "Gaterins" and "Mojarra" are the most familiar members of the grunt family, Haemulidae (formerly
Pomadasyidae). For the most part these have proven to be poor aquarium choices, with few individuals rarely surviving more than a
few days to weeks. In this family review I will make an argument for the family's more suitable members, some of the many other
Grunts. [eng]

Grunts & Sweetlips, Members of the Marine Fish Family Haemulidae
Sweetlips
are classified in the genus Plectorhinchus, and the Grunts that are
available in the aquarium trade are classified in the genus
Anisotremus. Grunts and Sweetlips are closely related to
Snappers. Sweetlips get their name from their large, fleshy lips,
and Grunts for their ability to grind their teeth together resulting in a
grunting noise. Most Sweetlips are found throughout the
Indo-Pacific region, while Grunts are mainly found in the Atlantic. [eng]
