Gunnels
Nine species of gunnels are found along the Pacific Coast of the United States and Canada (Robins et al. 1980). Three of them were observed in this study: the
penpoint gunnel, Apodichthys flavidus, the saddleback gunnel, Pholis ornata, and the rockweed gunnel Xererpes fucorum. According to Miller and Lea (1972), the
San Francisco Bay area is within the range of distribution of the red gunnel, Pholis schultzi. However, this species was not found in this study nor by other
investigators. [eng]
