Entomology project - hawk moth evolution
Evolutionary biology of the hawk moths
Hawk moths are among
the most magnificent and
spectacular of all moths.
Their streamlined wings
and bodies are perfectly
adapted for rapid flight.
They are the only moths
capable of hovering, which
enables them to use their
long tongues to sip nectar
from deep flowers, such as
orchids. [eng]

Endangered Butterflies
When writing the recent book Nabokov's Blues (Kurt Johnson and Steve Coates, Zoland Books 1999) we realized two important things. First,
that the fragile or endangered status of many butterflies worldwide is not well known, even to many active lepidopterists and butterfly
enthusiasts. Second, to introduce the stories of the lesser known endangered butterflies, one naturally turns to the stories of the ones that are
well known - like the Monarch Butterfly. The intertwining of their stories not only makes for compelling reading but carries a message of
extreme urgency.
