GIS/ research in mapping urban climate and energy effects
Within our Berlin environmental Atlas we have published different maps to describe the urban climate situation in our city. One of our very new efforts in the field of the global climate change discussion is to gather all relevant data of the various CO2-emission sources in the city so to support a very detailed CO2-cataster (on the level of the single built-up areas) in the city. This should be the beginning of a CO2- monitoring in Berlin. Who does know any other efforts in this field in metropolitean ares, which are just published or under construction. Urbanization has a dynamic relationship with the physical environment. While urban growth affects the physical environment (usually negatively), urban environmental changes also affects the quality of life in these areas. The latter lead to biochemical, epidemiological and psychological responses in the urban dwellers.
