This research makes use of organisms (caddisflies) that are highly dependent on environmental conditions associated with wetland habitats. Caddisflies occur in many aquatic habitats and are not added to wetlands by wetland designers (as are many plants). Caddisflies may act as integrative measures of wetland state and mitigation success; thus, the capture and identification of caddisflies may prove to be an inexpensive, non-intrusive method of accurately assessing wetland function.
