Evolution der Fische
Die Cichliden kommen hauptsächlich im afrikanischen Malawisee, dem Tanganjikasee und dem Victoriasee vor. Im Malawisee gibt es ca. 300 bekannte Arten (siehe Liste unten). Diese müssen sich in einem Zeitraum von etwa 15000 Jahren entwickelt haben, da der See gegen Ende der letzten Eiszeit ausgetrocknet war. Die Ernährung der Cichliden reicht von Plankton bis zu kleineren Fischen. Alle Arten haben ihren eigenen Lebensraum, von den Uferzonen bis in die tiefsten Stellen des Sees. [deu]

In the wild cichlids live in slow moving or still waters where there are plenty of hiding places, such as shores, heaps of rocks, or dense plant growth.
