The Cichlid Room Companion - Acarichthys Eigenmann 1912 Eigenmann erected Acarichthys for Aequidens-like fishes with feebly developed epibranchial lobes and few (1-2) rakers along the margin of the first gill arch: the
former characteristic separating Acarichthys from Aequidens Eigenmann and Bray 1894 (no lobe) and from Geophagus Heckel 1840 (well-developed lobe), and the
latter differing dramatically from species of the genus Geophagus (10 or more long thin rakers) and more like species of the genus Aequidens in number and size
(a few, short, stout rakers). [eng]

I slægten Acarichthys, som Eigenmann opstillede i 1912 findes der i dag
kun 1 art, idet Acarichthys geayi nu hører til den af Kullander og Nijssen i
1989 opstillede Guianacara-slægt. [dan]
