Herichthys cyanoguttatum
Breeding Behavior: Egglayer. Mine laid their eggs on a rock in the middle of the tank and chased every other fish into the
corners. My pair got a tank of their own. Mine laid about 200 eggs, but spawn sizes can be as large as 500 eggs per spawn. My
male was very rough on my female and would chase her constantly until I separated them. I got 4 juveniles (just over 2 inches)
and within a few weeks of having them in their new tank I got a breeding pair. [eng]

The Cichlid Room Companion - Herichthys Baird & Girard 1854
The genus Herichthys was erected in 1854 by Baird and Girard to accommodate some North American Cichlids with a "compressed
body, sub-elliptical in its outline, with small sub-conical teeth..." This last trait, being maybe the most differentiating one of the
diagnosis, was still not enough to make a clear distinction. The type species of the genus was designated Herichthys cyanoguttatus
Baird & Girard 1854 with type locality in Browsville, Texas, This fish is commonly known as the Texas cichlid. The Texas cichlid is
endemic of the basin of the lower Rio Grande - Conchos, around the border between México and The United States. [eng]
