Sciaenochromis fryeri
Sciaenochromis fryeri, the "electric blue hap." This magnificent fish, so popular with aquarists, used to be called Haplochromis ahli or Sciaenochromis ahli. Konings, believing this form to be different from the holotype of S. ahli, named it as a new species. The profile of the head, with what Ethelwynn Trewavas used to call a "Roman nose," is rather distinctive. Photo courtesy of Dr. Paul V. Loiselle. [eng]
Sciaenochromis gracilis
Sciaenochromis gracilis (?). Below is a photo of a second individual (a sexually active male), also tentatively referred to this species, which is only doubtfully distinct from S. spilostichus. Both photos copyright © by M. K. Oliver. [eng]
African Cichlids: Sciaenochromis to Trematocranus
Information on African Cichlid Genera from Sciaenochromis to Trematocranus. Sciaenochromis - An extremely aggressive genus home to the popular Sciaenochromis freyeri (aka. ahli), or, "Electric Blue Ahli". These fish are polygamous mouthbrooders from Lake Malawi. Males which are housed in tanks too small can become "Hyperdominant", so this species is not recommended for tanks smaller than 75 gallons, 100+ being preferred. [eng]
The Cichlid Room Companion - Sciaenochromis fryeri Breeding tank
Sciaenochromis fryeri is commonly known as the "Electric Blue Haplochromis". This common name explains in few words the wonderful coloration that this fish owns! In this next lines, I'll try to describe what I've learned with this species, starting with his description, behavior, food preferences and breeding. [eng]
Sciaenochromis fryeri
[fra]
