Cordylidae Armadillo lizards represent an entirely African family of live-bearing species. The largest may grow to about 49 cm / 20 inches, but most are
between 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) in total length. Cordylids are recognized by the depressed, arrow-shaped head which is covered in large
plates, and strongly keeled tail scales that form annuli. Eyelids and ear openings are present. All species have well-developed limbs with five
digits. The skin contains osteoderms. The teeth are hollow at the base. The parasternum is absent. [eng]
Cordylidae Most species occur in South Africa and adjacent countries, only Cordylus angolensis and C. rivae can be found
further north around Angola or Ethiopia, respectively. [eng]
